Four Little Words and One Big Answer

In a very small corner of the world on Friday night, one man proposed to one woman.

And she said yes!

Dear Boyfriend,

I have a confession: I don't think anniversaries should be low-key small-time events.

Birthdays, on the other hand, should be itty bitty ink spots on the page of life. You should have to squint to see them. You can't get rid of those suckers if you try and you'll always have another one so you might as well keep them small.

But anniversaries should light up like the 4th of July. Our anniversary is something that only means something to the two of us. It means we made it. It means that where others lost faith in love and gave up, we have prevailed. Although we have lost your belt and your boxers a few times along the way. Oops. It means that we're still "smitten" despite ourselves. It means we survived.

And Anniversary #1? Oh, what a survival that is. In the past year, you and I have survived...well, you and I. But we've also made it through:
- The world's nastiest flavored whipped cream.
- Also some pretty bad turkey sausage.
- My miserable excuse for belaying dropping you while rock-climbing.
- Living 6500 miles apart for eight unbearable months.
- Backpacking after approximately two hours of sleep. Total. Folded up in a truck cab.
- Your last weeks of school and following graduation (congrats!)
- Some really lame jokes.
- Plenty of nekkid-time. Wherein "plenty" really means "not enough."
- Adopting the monster that terrorizes our apartment...otherwise known as Kitten.
- The only night I have ever been drunk in my entire life.
          (and that night's ensuing hangover).

See how that isn't a low-key small-time thing? Huh? Don't'cha, honey, don't'cha?

I'm glad we've come this far together and that after this year, we're still looking forward to the next one. How we've managed to stay on each others' good sides is a mystery to me but I'm thankful we have. There isn't a day that goes by that I don't cherish the life we've built together and that I don't appreciate everything you are to me. I sure am glad I went fishing off the company pier; you have been quite the catch.

I love you more than bears love honey, Boyfriend.
And I love you again,
Sarah
